One of the most famous
dishes from Malaysia Ipoh city is the Ipoh Ngar Choi Kai (芽菜鸡), or
Ipoh Bean Sprout Chicken. Normally Ipoh Bean Sprout Chicken is
serving with Hor Fun (Flat noodle/河粉) in soup.
Some stalls or restaurants from other places in Malaysia and
Singapore do selling this dish. But just be aware that due to Ipoh's
water, Ipoh's bean sprouts are shorter, thicker and difficult to
find elsewhere. The characteristic of Ipoh bean sprouts are stout
and crunchy. So the Bean Sprout Chicken you find else where might
not as yummy as Ipoh, but all depends on personal preference.
It is a must try food if you happen to be in Ipoh. The bean sprout
chicken consists of steamed chicken meat served with soya sauce and
sesame oil, and the short and fat bean sprout are drizzled with oil,
sesame oil, and soy sauce and white pepper powder. This yummy dish
is always served with a bowl of Hor Fun (flat noodles). |
