Steamed Egg

Steamed egg (egg custard) is a very simple dish. It is a popular home style dish among Chinese and always serves with rice. It is easy to cook and only requires very simple ingredients. But it can have numerous variations by just adding some more ingredients. We introduce the basic steamed egg cooking method today, and might share the other variations in coming future.

Steamed egg (egg custard) recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 4 eggs
  • 250ml water (boiled and cool down to room temperature)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Pinch of pepper powder
  • ½ tsp Sesame oil

Methods:

  • Crack eggs into a bowl.
  • Beat egg gently, try to avoid creating too much bubbles. (If too many bubbles on top, remove the bubbles with spoon.)
  • Add water, salt and sesame oil, and mix well.
  • Sprinkle some pepper powder on top.
  • Cover with a plate or foil.
  • Steam with low heat about 15 minutes or until the egg is totally solid.
  • Serve hot.

(*If serve with rice, steam the eggs with rice cooker steamer at the same time when you are cooking rice. This saves you time and works.)
