Prawn dishes in Cantonese
culture known as a food that
associated with joyous, laughter and merry. This
is because the word ‘prawn’ is call ‘har’ in
Cantonese, and it sounds like “ha” as in “hahaha”
in laughter – meaning there is happiness and
joy. So, in most of the Cantonese families,
prawn dishes is a “must” during Chinese New
Year.
But nowadays, almost all
Chinese like to serve prawn dishes during
Chinese New Year. Because prawns are delicious
and people like to have all auspicious dishes
regardless of it is from which cultures.
